Letter from A Mosul MP: Dr Haneen Mahmoud Al Qaddo MP, Gen Sec of Democratic Shabak Assembly
Draft Translation

Dear Action for Mosul

Greetings

It gives me considerable sadness to witness the grave deterioration in standards among the body of Nineveh Governorate, the leadership and its representatives in the Parliament with the exception Mr An Nujaifi and my humble self who are strongly defending the Governorate.

In the last few days I have met with Mr Sean Kean, representative of Mr Steffan De Mestura, Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General in Iraq, on more than one occasion to discuss the boroughs of Al Hamdania and El Sheikhan and the Kurdistan borders. I submitted several documents to the Demistura representative on the situation in Bashiqah, the Borough of Hamdania and the process of Kurdisation.  In these meetings with

I provided him with evidence that Al Hamdania Borough never witnessed any process of Arabization by the previous regime and that the distribution of some land to some Arab families, and to the Shabak in the Borough, was to people of the area who belonged to that Borough and there were no lands re-distributed to families from outside the region.

The Kurdish leaderships gave a promise to some of the religious minorities who were colluding with the Kurdish parties to get rid of both the Shabak and Arabs from the borough and from Bashiqua if these minorities agreed to link Al Hamdania to what it intended to become a region of Kurdistan.  There is an inclination by some religious minorities to join Kurdistan but this is not shared by all, and particularly not shared by the Assyrians.

Brothers, we need to join forces and organize demonstrations in Mosul to denounce the killings of minorities such as the Shabak and the Christians. We have heard no such  denouncements from any Mosul dignitary.  We deplore the forced migration and savage killing of the Shabak who wholeheartedly refuse the attempt to divide Mosul, Tikreet and the Nineveh Plain and change the administrative boundaries of the Governorate.  We declare this objective which we will pioneer whilst continuing to hold out against the division of Iraq and preserve the identity of Mosul and the Governorate.

We call upon you to work and to co-ordinate efforts to save Mosul and save Iraq.

Dr Haneen Mahmoud Al Qaddo MP
Gen Sec of Democratic Shabak Assembly
Chairman of the Iraqi Minorities Council
Member of the Human Rights Committee for the Iraqi Parliament
