I would like to add few things to what is in the Mosul cultural Encyclopedia
1- In the field of arts I would like you to refer to the Encyclopedia Britannica under the heading of "Mosul School" you will see that all the present art in Persia, Turkey , Syria and Egypt owes its origin to the Mosul school of art that flourished in the Atabeg period.
2-Salahdin army in the battle of Hittin consisted of 5000 of his knights plus 6000 Mosul knights!( refer to Ibn Shadad history of Saladin)
3- Also the ingenuity of the Muslawis supplied Salahudin with (sword proof ) vests for his knights in the form of plodded wool, i.e. what is called (lubad).
4- The library of Ashur Banipal consisting of about 22000 clay tablets has been left nearly untouched in the British Museum because a lot of what the west claims to be the wisdom of the Greeks has its origin in these tablets. It is a conspiracy of silence.
This is what comes to my mind now. I had made a lot of notes about the Mosul cultural encyclopedia but I dont have them at hand just now.
Well the best of luck in your effort in the "Save Mosul" movement.
Comment from Zaid AL-Fakhri
I might add a few notes of mine based on western historians' research that the introduction of the felt material(Kacha) in the Mosul Knights vests was the doing of the Mosuli christian craftsmen who still today specialise in this trade, and it caught the enemy by surprise because their falling arrows did not do much harm to the attacking cavalary and foot soldiers and they thought that this was a miracle of God and fled the scene of battle.
Mosul's contribution to world culture and the region itself whether past or present need to be reevaluated to save the legecy of this "Rose red city half as old as time" pray we have to live long enough to establish this as a fact beyond doubt Zaid
